The main character of this Greek mythology is the infamous Oedipus. As a young baby his parents were told by a oracle that he would kill his father and lay with his mother, to fufill a prophecy. So as any normal father would he sent the baby with a servant to have him killed, but not after binding his ankles.
The son of Lauis and Jocasta from Thebes was sent away to get killed, instead Oedipus became the new son of Polybus and Merope of Corinth. Who raised him as their own.
Then one day when Oedipus was much older came upon an oracle who told him the same prophecy. In terror he ran away from Corinth and came upon a crossroad. At this crossroad he met Laius, but Oedipus did not know who this man was. When Oedipus got "road rage" he killed Laius and all of his men. After leaving the crossroad he came to Thebes and helped the people get rid of the Sphinx.
How he rid the people of the Sphinx by solving the riddle, "What is it that walks on four legs in the morning, on two at midday, and on three in the evening?" The answer to this riddle was, "Man, for he crawls as a baby, walks erect in maturity, and uses a staff in old age." After this answer the Sphinx destroyed itself.
With the people saved and their queen recently widowed, they gave Jocasta's hand in marriage to Oedipus and he became the new king of Thebes. Years later he had 2 daughters and sons, and he ruled for 20 years in peace. For this is where the story begins...
